Rider’s Ability

Fitness and your ability to ride a mountain bike all day is key to your enjoyment and ability to complete the ride. You need to be a cycling enthusiast with above average fitness. The riding is amazing and very much mountain biking – particularly on the Telegraph Track with its crystal clear creek crossings and flowing trails.

Bike Requirement

Your bike needs to be of a cross country / marathon nature and fitted with tubeless tyres (compulsory). It needs to be serviced beforehand.

Itinerary

The ride will comprise 64 – 126 km per day, camping and eating some of our meals at the roadhouses, having a support vehicle to carry your gear and flying back to Cairns from Horn Island.

Allowing 9 days, we will leave Cairns by bus on the Saturday to start riding when we hit the dirt North of Laura. While the adventure is all about the riding, we’ll plan breaks at all of the best attractions on the Cape, from swimming holes, to waterfalls, historical monuments and areas of cultural significance. We’ll even chase the infamous Barramundi near the Tip of Cape York if you wish to get up early enough.  To finish in style we’ll celebrate by staying in luxury accommodation on Thursday Island for the final night.

Cost

$3300  All inclusive (incl GST)

(Flight, Bus, 3 Quality Meals per day + snacks, Charter Boat and Ferry Transfers, Commemorative Jersey, National Park and Road use Permits, Camping fees, Support Vehicle and gear transport, Local / Certified Guides, Insurance, Spares and Mechanical Support, Bike Tour and Luxury Accommodation on Thursday Island)

Or

$3800 (incl GST) As Above plus Twin shares A/C Basic Cabin Accommodation when available (4 nights)

(Note, Due to the remote nature and distances to cover it’s not possible to get accommodation every night so three nights camping in your tent is still required)

Support

Riding in a group with the comfort of a support vehicle means that your every need will be catered for, from flat tyres to first aid and refreshments. We (your guides) are both qualified IMBA Instructors and have over 50 years of cycling experience between us. Additionally our support people will drive the fully equipped vehicle carrying all your gear as well as comprehensive communication and emergency response equipment.

What to bring

You’ll need to bring your own bike, riding and camping gear including tent, sleeping bag and mattress. We’ll transport this for you but it all needs to fit into a standard domestic airline bag for the flight home (ie No Swags). We’ll provide everything else required for 9 days in the bush.
